The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra (2004)
Throughout the 1950s, Hollywood saw a
lot of filmmakers making quite a few movies that were made for a
cheap, low budget. Mostly in both the science fiction and horror
genres. Movies like “Robot Monster” and of course “Plan 9 from
Outer Space” have been called worthy of films that are so bad, that
they have to be seen because of their bad quality in their
production. Luckily, with 2004's “The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra”,
we get a fantastic recreation of all those bad films from the 1950s;
from bad continuity to over-the-top acting, and a ridiculous plot,
the movie is a great tribute to cheesy B-movies of the era. But maybe
it does its job a little too well... “The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra”
is an amazing tribute to all things schlock of yesteryear.
The plot has three different groups of
people, each with their own unique agenda. A scientist and his wife
are searching for meteor that has landed in the mountains. An evil
scientist wants to revive the titular character so that he can- you
guessed it- try and take over the world. A pair of aliens have crash
landed on Earth, unleashing a horrible mutant in the process, and
must find a way to get back home. All of these people must come
together to stop the threat known as: The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra!
“The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra” is a
great homage to all of the cheesy, and bad low budget science
fiction/horror films of the 1950s.
The writing's bad as well as the
dialogue. Three are a lot of lines that seem awful, but in reality,
are hilarious. Plus, there is not a whole detail to the main plot, as
there are a lot of things that don't make sense.
The music is just stock music from the
50s, and it fits the movie so perfectly, that is just fitting and
great on how many tracks were actually used from other films and
other forms of media.
The special effects are terrible as you
can clearly see the strings on some of the props. The mutant is
clearly a guy in a monster suit, but that's what makes the charm of
this film so memorable.
The cast does such an over-the-top
performance, it's laughable to watch.
In fact, the movie is so fun to watch.
Everyone involved with the project knew that this was bad, but they
had a blast doing it.
Especially since the movie was filmed
in Southern California, a place where movies are not being filmed
anymore. More specifically, in Lake Arrowhead and Bronson Cave, a
site where many famous movies and TV shows were filmed. The
cinematography is great is the film is in black and white giving it
its nostalgia look. The movie is bad enough that you can't help but
enjoy it. It's definitely one of those films where it doesn't need to
be taken seriously.
And while the film is intentionally
bad, that's basically the one joke. It's an expanded tribute to the
B-movies of the past, that just goes on for an hour and a half.
In conclusion, “The Lost Skeleton of
Cadavra” is a bad movie that has some good connections going for
it.
